Urban Water: Website and animated infographics

The City of Melbourne wanted to create an online showcase for its Integrated Water Cycle Management projects, so the general public could ‘see the unseen’ work which is going on underground or behind the scenes.

Studio Binocular worked closely with City of Melbourne in the strategic planning stage of this project, so as to structure and organise the vast amount of information into a clear, intuitive and easy to navigate structure. We developed a creative look and feel for the interface – in keeping with the City of Melbourne brand, but aiming to bring the most out of the content. We created illustrated animations to make complex technical information more appealing and understandable to people without a technical background. Users can watch videos, undertake an interactive walking tour, or explore projects via an interactive map.

The end result has been a best practice online resource which responds to desktop, mobile and touch screen kiosk devices. The project has become a benchmark for WSUD communications within local government and was recognised for excellence and innovation through the Australian Water Association’s celebrated ‘Program Innovation Award’.
