As Creative Director, Laura partners with clients to articulate their business challenges. She develops design strategies that advance the creative direction of brands – leading the team in creating ideas which deliver tangible results. Laura has been instrumental in building brand personalities for the likes of the City of Melbourne, Melbourne Biomedical Precinct, the University of Melbourne, Fed Square and the Victorian Government. She is a presenter at industry events, sits on advisory panels, and has won awards from AGDA, AILA, the Melbourne Design Awards and VicHealth. She was also recently nominated by Monash University’s ‘Affemation’ project as one of the 25 most influential women in Australian graphic design.
Susan joined Studio Binocular as Studio Manager in 2011, bringing sixteen years of experience in the design, digital and advertising industries. She has worked on account planning, production and project management and has co-ordinated teams in Melbourne and London to deliver national ad campaigns, content-managed websites, printed collateral, outdoor and installation pieces. Susan works on strategic planning for clients – ensuring the studio’s creative solutions are bang on their business objectives. Her strategic insights are particularly focussed around Melbourne’s innovation precincts – working with universities, governments and industry leaders to build our knowledge economy.
A born and bred New Zealander, Richard has a genuine passion for creating stand out, market-leading brands. His thirteen years of experience covers everything from large scale branding and government sector communications, to more focussed creative solutions. In his role as Design Director, Richard is responsible for strategic problem solving, design leadership and contributing his considerable insights and experience to all briefs. Richard is comfortable working on a wide range of media – from traditional print advertising, to complex executions in the digital realm. He has worked with a range of household names such as FIFA, the Discovery Channel, ANZ and the University of Melbourne.
As Account Director, Martine is responsible for managing and overseeing projects from creative brief to production and implementation, whilst ensuring that client timelines, budgets and briefs are met. Martine brings knowledge and skills from a broad range of projects for Australian Super, Royal Australian College of General Practitioners (RACGP), Respect Victoria, Sustainability Victoria, Independent Broad-based Anti-Corruption Commission and the Little Group. Martine has managed creative and production teams to deliver integrated campaigns across TV, radio, print, outdoor, digital display and social media and major national rebrands.
Camilla began her career as a copywriter, writing for clients like Volkswagen and ME Bank. She switched to account management in 2013, honing her client service skills on the Zoos Victoria account. In London, Camilla helped coordinate a global conference for the Royal Academy of Engineering, and wrote copy for the Alzheimer’s Society. Most recently, she was the publishing assistant at frankie press, ensuring the smooth production of both print and digital publications. At Studio Binocular, Camilla manages projects from quoting, briefing, setting timelines and liaising with clients – balancing the goals of all stakeholders to deliver great results.
Sam has worked across a range of sectors and clients, including Lonely Planet, Small Business Victoria, WorkSafe and the Cities of Melbourne, Sydney and Adelaide. Sam’s design skills bring great value to Studio Binocular’s projects – from digital and print campaigns, to city-wide wayfinding signage programs to B2B projects. She has also worked on the branding and collateral for events, festivals and launches, including Melbourne Music Week, Small Business Festival Victoria, and Law Week. She also has a penchant for illustration, runs a rockin’ blog called Once More With Feels, and recently exhibited at Gallery1988 in LA.
Nicolette plays a key role in developing high profile animations, events, festivals and launch campaigns for a wide range of clients such as universities, local governments, social welfare organisations, peak bodies for health and arts organisations. Nicolette has worked on some of the studio’s most significant documentation and publication projects, including the 300+ page Parks Victoria interactive Signage Style Guide, which is now considered best practice, and the annual dKin magazine for Deakin University’s alumni. Her work has featured in Touch Magazine; she was an AGIdeas New Star finalist; and the recipient of an AGDA award for Typography.
Clara joined Studio Binocular at the end of 2016, following the completion of her Honours year at Swinburne University. Following a year of industry placement, Clara brought to the team her early experience with a range of corporates including Officeworks and Coles. Since arriving at Studio Binocular, Clara has contributed to many of the core clients within the studio, across a broad range of projects that includes integrated behaviour change campaigns, publication layout, physical activations, as well as digital advertising and social media for clients such as Monash Pharmacy, City of Melbourne and the City of Yarra.
Abby joined the Studio Binocular team at the beginning of 2018 after graduating with Honours from Swinburne University. During this time she completed twelve months industry placement, working with a broad cross section of clients including Visit Victoria, the Burnet Institute and the Victorian Inclusion Agency to name a few. Now working alongside Studio Binocular’s design team, Abby has made significant contributions to our knowledge-based and cultural clients including RMIT, VCAT, Bunjil Place and Polyglot Theatre. She has also worked on substantial projects spanning strategic publications, large format banners and digital assets.
Blake is one of Studio Binocular’s newest recruits, joining us in 2018. After studying Creative Advertising and Graphic Design in Perth, Blake relocated to Melbourne where he undertook a Bachelor of Design (Communication Design) at RMIT. With a solid design education under his belt, Blake furthered his experience at not-for-profit Uniting Vic.Tas for 2.5 years across a broad range of community service programs, including early learning, disability and mental health. Since joining our team, Blake has worked across clients including The University of Melbourne, Polyglot Theatre, Her Place and the City of Melbourne.
