A festival for an audience of ‘thinkers, innovators, explorers, the curious and the carefree’ this festival covers topics ranging from food innovation, sustainability and robotics, to democracy, culture and technology.
Celebrating its 10th year in 2019, the City of Melbourne’s Smart City Office approached Studio Binocular to bring it’s creative to life online, designing the user experience and interface for it’s most central communication tool – it’s website. The website needed to embody the festival’s vision and mission, positioning it at the forefront of ideas and innovation.
We ran a collaborative discovery workshop with the Smart City Office team, and these insights – together with our experience and best practice thinking – directly informed the informational architecture of the site. We developed a nuanced approach to scalability, establishing logical grid structures and responsive principles to ensure the best possible user experience across all devices. The site was designed to allow users to search and browse content with ease, with particular focus on the advanced search functionality of the events program.
We also delivered a comprehensive style guide for the interface. This highly detailed manual included the functionality and styling of all interactive elements such as navigation expansion and behaviour, design highlights, and form styling.
